Meet Our Team

Sam 'The Greek' Tassoglou
Sam, the visionary behind Waterwheel Japanese Koi Farm, was born in Greece and came to America over 50 years ago. With a lifetime of experience running varied and successful businesses, Sam brought his entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking to the creation of our koi farm.
As a fundamental part of our team, Sam’s expertise has been instrumental in shaping the farm. He designed and developed the intricate water system that ensures our koi have a continuous supply of clean, fresh water—a cornerstone of their health and well-being. The iconic waterwheel, which inspired our farm’s name, is another of Sam’s remarkable creations and a striking feature for all who visit.
Sam’s dedication is unmatched. He often works tirelessly from dawn until dusk, not only caring for the koi but also refining the farm's infrastructure and enhancing the water systems.
He also played a key role in designing the breeding pods, affectionately known as "The Hatchery." These pods, originally used for nurturing koi fry, now serve as storage spaces for purchased koi, keeping them safe and organized as they await shipping or collection.
Sam’s passion and hard work are the foundation of everything we do at Waterwheel Japanese Koi Farm.

Alex Tassoglou
Alex is the powerhouse of Waterwheel Japanese Koi Farm, often taking on the physically demanding tasks like entering the ponds to catch koi or moving heavy equipment around the farm. His skills extend beyond strength—he is highly proficient with technology and heavy machinery, having started early by driving the tractor as a young boy while helping Sam build the ponds.
Alex has been integral to the development of the business. He takes the lead in customer interactions, building relationships with clients, and expanding the farm’s reach. Additionally, Alex played a crucial role in creating and refining the farm’s website, managing many of the more complex technical aspects to ensure a seamless online presence.
Under Sam’s guidance, Alex has been learning the intricacies of the water systems, preparing to take on an even larger role in the farm's operations. With his dedication and diverse skills, Alex is a key part of the present and future of Waterwheel Japanese Koi Farm.

Megan- Lucia Tassoglou
Megan joined the Waterwheel Japanese Koi Farm team remotely in 2021 while living in England. During that time, she contributed to designing the original logo and website and assisted Alex in identifying koi varieties.
Over the next few years, Megan dedicated herself to studying koi varieties, breeding techniques, and essential care practices, including disease control and prevention. Her commitment to learning and attention to detail have been invaluable to the farm.
In 2023, Megan moved to the United States, unfortunately arriving during the challenging period of the rat poison incident. Since then, she has become more directly involved in the daily operations of the business. Megan is likely to be the person you interact with when purchasing koi from us, ensuring you receive knowledgeable and attentive service.
Having spent her life living and working on farms and breeding various animals, Megan brings a wealth of experience to our team. She is meticulous about understanding the care requirements of every animal she works with. With a background in animal nutrition from her college studies, Megan has even developed a custom koi food recipe to support the health and growth of our fish. Additionally, she designed the updated website and logo, further solidifying her role as a creative and technical force behind the farm.

Lockie Tassoglou
Lockie is the newest addition to both our family and the family business, born in 2024 to Alex and Megan.
Our hope is to pass on our passion, expertise, and knowledge to Lockie, nurturing her to one day continue the legacy of Waterwheel Japanese Koi Farm.
For now, Lockie spends her days growing, learning, and developing the foundational skills she’ll need for the future. When the time comes, we’re confident she’ll apply those skills to help shape the next chapter of our business.
This farm is being built not just for her, but also for any future siblings she may have—a legacy rooted in family and dedication.
